How does the iSeries Hardware solution for HA/DR/Backup work?

This new environment offers the following solutions:
  • Point-in-time backups, executed from a different LPAR or system, requiring no interruption to the production system jobs or users and not requiring any HA/DR software on the production system.
  • Continuous Copy to a High Availability or Disaster Recovery system nearby or at a great distance.
A typical environment requires the following components:
System i5 or iSeries:
  • External, fiber-attached storage
  • Independent ASP (iASP)
  • IBM iSeries Copy Services toolkit
TotalStorage DS6000 or DS8000 SAN:
  • RMC (Remote Mirror Copy) for HA/DR
  • PTC (Point in Time Copy) for Backups
